Distinguished and Famous people from Port Welshpool
⚓ William Bruce McGuire Smith and his family
William Bruce McGuire Smith, his wife Elizabeth and their children lived in the fishermen’s house that later became Port Welshpool’s maritime museum. WBM and sons Richie and Percy Arnot, known as Arnie, assembled marine objects, shells and family belongings through their working lives and travels. Arnie continued living there and raised his daughter Janet in the same home. The fishing boat Janet Iles, built for the family in 1914, became another part of the preserved collection. Together the house, domestic possessions and maritime equipment record generations of a port family, keeping everyday life alongside the tools and vessels of the fishing industry.
